What Happened to the Campus Pride Index?
Campus Pride was a national nonprofit organization that served LGBTQIA+ students and faculty through developed programs and resources. Some of its most critical tools included the Campus Pride Index, university rankings, Trans Policy Clearinghouse, and LGBTQIA+ Scholarship Database.
Campus Pride was originally founded in 2001, bringing two decades of support to students and advisors. As of August 2026, Campus Pride is currently defunct after former CEO Shane Windmeyer was accused of embezzling $100,000. Board chairperson Candis Cox originally stated Campus Pride would continue to move forward with greater transparency and accountability, but no information has been released since 2024.
The Campus Pride website no longer works due to hosting expiration and automatically redirects to online gambling. The only way to access Campus Pride currently is via the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, based on available web crawl captures.
However, many of Campus Pride’s transgender resources were managed by Dr. Genny Beemyn, who previously worked for the Transgender Law and Policy Institute. Dr. Beemyn continues to update information on their website.
What Was the Campus Pride Index? (And How to Access Archived Data)
The Campus Pride Index was a benchmarking tool to help students search for LGBTQIA+-affirming college campuses. The index contained data from thousands of universities, ranking them on policies, student organizations, retention and graduation rates, and other criteria.
Based on my research using the Wayback Machine, the full dataset from the Campus Pride Index was never captured by the Internet Archive. This means the rankings and search engine are lost unless Campus Pride brings back the website.
The best data available from the Campus Pride Index is the Best of the Best and Worst Lists, which were compiled based on CPI’s data to determine the collectively most (and least) affirming universities.

Trans Policy Clearinghouse: Guide to Transgender Campus Policies
The Trans Policy Clearinghouse, which was coordinated by Dr. Genny Beemyn, was a hub of university policies regarding transgender inclusion and safety. Campus Pride’s TPC hosted information about nondiscrimination policies, name records, gender-inclusive facilities, housing, and health insurance.
All of the Trans Policy Clearinghouse is uploaded on Dr. Beemyn’s website, which is continuously updated despite Campus Pride’s nonfunctional status.
TPC also contains the Campus Pride Trans Joy Resource Guide, which explores ways to uplift and empower transgender individuals working through college.
Transgender Nondiscrimination Policies in Higher Education
The Nondiscrimination Policy List by the Trans Policy Clearinghouse includes universities that explicitly list gender identity and expression as protected categories. These policies persist regardless of current Title IX interpretation or use of religious exemption.
TPC’s Nondiscrimination Policy List was last updated in July 2024, although Dr. Beemyn has fully maintained this list. Dr. Beemyn’s list includes 1,933 colleges and universities with explicit gender identity nondiscrimination policies, last updated in July 2026.
College Student Records: Chosen Names and Pronoun Policies
The Student Records List categorizes colleges that permit students to use self-identified information, such as a chosen name or pronouns, on campus records. These records include course rosters, campus ID cards, directory listings, and other documents that do not necessarily require legal information (such as an official transcript or health information).
Both versions of the Student Records List by the Trans Policy Clearinghouse and Dr. Beemyn have not been updated recently. TPC’s version was last updated in July 2024, while Dr. Beemyn’s Student Records List was updated in September 2024.
Gender-Inclusive and All-Gender Restrooms on College Campuses
The Trans Policy Clearinghouse Gender-Inclusive Restroom List includes information regarding official gender-neutral and transgender-inclusive restrooms on college campuses. To be listed, universities must explicitly list gender-inclusive restroom availability on their website.
Although TPC’s version was last updated in July 2024, Dr. Beemyn continues to maintain their version of the Gender-Inclusive Restroom List. Dr. Beemyn’s version was last updated in August 2026.
Additional gender-inclusive restroom information can be found on REFUGE, an app that allows users to self-report safe facilities based on location.
Transgender Student Health Insurance: Gender-Affirming Care Coverage
The Trans-Inclusive Student Health Insurance List details universities that have outlined guidelines for transgender students to utilize university health insurance for gender-affirming care, such as hormone replacement therapy and surgery.
Neither Campus Pride nor Dr. Beemyn’s Trans-Inclusive Student Health Insurance Lists have been updated since July 2024. However, Dr. Beemyn’s version contains more information, showing at least 158 colleges and universities that provide gender-affirming care coverage for students compared to TPC’s 41.
More information regarding transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage can be found on Advocates for Trans Equality’s Trans Health Project, which includes an archived list of insurance provider guidelines. Additional information about transgender medical healthcare coverage can be found on Trans Solidarity Project’s medical resource guide.
Transgender College Athletic Policies and Federal Restrictions
The Trans Policy Clearinghouse maintained a Trans-Inclusive Athletic Policy List, categorizing colleges that allow transgender students to participate in sex-segregated sports. Dr. Beemyn’s last update is the same as TPC, which was in August 2024.
Order 14201 by the Trump-Vance administration bans all transgender individuals from participating in competitive school sports, which includes colleges and universities alongside K-12 schools. Order 14201 does NOT apply to noncompetitive sports clubs or activities on campus. Yet, Order 14201 currently overrides university policies listed in the Trans-Inclusive Athletic Policy List unless courts intervene or Order 14201 is overturned.
TPC’s information coincides with the Campus Pride Sports Index, listing and ranking universities based on LGBTQIA+ sports inclusion policies similar to the general Campus Pride Index. Unlike the CPI, all of the data on the Campus Pride Sports Index was captured successfully by the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.
Gender-Inclusive Housing on College Campuses: Finding Trans-Friendly Dorms
Previously, TPC listed information about transgender-inclusive housing. However, attempts to reach TPC’s version on the Wayback Machine automatically redirect to other sections of the website.
Dr. Beemyn continues to maintain their Gender-Inclusive Housing List, which was last updated in January 2026 and includes 487 colleges and universities that have specified trans-inclusive campus housing.
Transgender Admission Policies at Historically Gendered Colleges
Historically Women’s Colleges and Men’s Colleges have been developing transgender-inclusive admission policies since the 2010s. These institutions permit transgender students to attend in some capacity, although they may have restrictions.
Trans Policy Clearinghouse’s version of the Historically Gendered College Policy List was updated in August 2024. Dr. Beemyn currently maintains this list, listing their last public update in June 2026.
LGBTQ+ College Scholarships: Finding Financial Aid Beyond Campus Pride
Campus Pride was also well-known for its National Scholarship Database. It compiled thousands of national, regional, and local scholarships relevant to LGBTQIA+ students. The National Scholarship Database was not captured by Internet Archive crawlers and is therefore inaccessible unless revived by Campus Pride.
The best alternative for prospective students is the LGBTQ+ Student Scholarship Database maintained by the Human Rights Campaign, which similarly connects queer students with various scholarship opportunities.

LGBTQIA+ Fraternities and Sororities: Navigating Inclusive Greek Life
Campus Pride collected and organized information about LGBTQIA+-inclusive fraternities and sororities to help students understand and navigate Greek life. Although Greek life has been associated with homophobia, many organizations have taken official stances to include LGBTQIA+ membership.
The Campus Pride fraternity and sorority information is fragmented, limiting its usefulness. There is currently no other established alternative, although Wikipedia has a list of LGBTQIA+-inclusive fraternities and sororities.
HBCU Clearinghouse: LGBTQIA+ Resources at Historically Black Colleges
The HBCU Clearinghouse details information regarding Historically Black Colleges and Universities and LGBTQIA+ inclusion. The entire data list was captured successfully by Internet Archive crawlers, saving the information for future use beyond Campus Pride.
Like all other Campus Pride resources captured by the Internet Archive, they are unable to be updated officially and may not reflect current policies by listed colleges and universities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Campus Pride Index still active?
No, the Campus Pride Index is no longer active. The official Campus Pride website became nonfunctional after internal conflict in 2024. However, archived snapshots of Campus Pride can be accessed through the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.
How can I find updated information on transgender campus policies?
Dr. Genny Beemyn, who coordinated and managed the Trans Policy Clearinghouse for Campus Pride, continues to update comprehensive databases for transgender campus policies on their website.
Where can LGBTQ+ students find college scholarships?
Although the Campus Pride National Scholarship Database is inaccessible, the Human Rights Campaign maintains an alternative comprehensive scholarship database.
Are there databases for LGBTQ+-inclusive fraternities and sororities?
Official directories of LGBTQ+-inclusive fraternities and sororities are fragmented, but student and user-maintained resources like Wikipedia’s inclusive Greek life list provide basic information for researching queer-friendly Greek life.
Does federal law affect college policies for trans student-athletes?
Yes, federal law currently impacts college policies for transgender student-athletes. Executive Order 14201 restricts transgender individuals from participating in competitive school sports and overrides institutional nondiscrimination policies. However, Order 14201 only applies to competitive athletics, so noncompetitive intramural clubs and recreation remain exempt.
